Muradiye Waterfalls or Bendamahi falls are located approximately 60 km West of Van on the Dogubeyazit Road. The road to Muradiye offers some really good views of Lake Van and mount Sulphan as well as patches of lush pasture, thanks to the irrigation systems in place. We were fortunate to have a lovely clear morning to see the beautiful blueness of Lake Van and the snow-topped mount Sulphan. Muradiye is a nice place to have a picnic/bbq and locals and tourist make good use of it. There is a small forest area close to the waterfall which provides shade during the summer months. You may see the odd bride and groom posing for photographs. Seemingly it is a popular visit for newly weds. It is a nice back drop for wedding photographs I must say. The falls are around 10m tall, so not so big but they are pretty. A very bouncy bridge (I didn’t find it scary) suspends over the river and it gives you a great view of the falls. You can also climb down to river level and bathe your feet in the spray. Yes, we had brilliant day at Muradiye Waterfalls. We ate and drank until we were stuffed, washed the dishes in the stream and set off home. I was happy to get another chance to see the great views of Van Lake and mount Sulphan on the road back to Van. I want to do it all over again next weekend.
